Port Elizabeth Game and Lion Park South Africa - unique experience of close-up Game-viewing

Exploring Working as a Volunteer at the Seaview Game & Lion Park.

Volunteers

Working as a volunteer you will join the workforce of a Game Park in Africa a lifestyle few can choose..

You will learn about the animals in the Park and care for the small animals we have received for rehabilitation.

You will take part in the general beautifying and improving the Park and its facilities and learn how to remove alien plants etc., and to care for the environment and to improve the general welfare of the animals and the enjoyment of the public, and the facilities of the volunteers!

You will interact with the day visitors coming to the Park, especially those wishing to see the cubs and help in the restaurant during busy periods.

You will have the rare opportunity of working with lion cubs if various ages and being responsible for the cubs’ wellbeing. IF YOU ARE HERE WHEN THERE ARE YOUNG CUBS you will feed them with milk formula from a bottle. Making sure that they are warm. Replacing their mother in all ways. Doing the mothers’ job of assisting them to urinate and defecate, (for at least the first three weeks as they cannot do this for themselves). Cuddling and just sitting with them you will enjoy your days in the company of the most sociable of all cats. They love to fall asleep on your lap! Your days on Cubs’ duty will include making the various feed mixtures and preparing meat for the various age groups. In observing and studying the lion cubs and their behaviour, you will notice the changes almost daily, such is the rate at which they grow and progress. Lion cubs soon respond to our voices and even “talk back to us”.

Volunteers can enjoy meeting with others from all around the world. Lasting friendships have been formed and even further travelling plans made. T.V. is available in the communal lounge along with games to be learned and played. We also have a number of interesting books and manuals about all things pertaining to the Park, birds, animals, common animal diseases, game-management, ethnic design etc.

Our meat is obtained from local farmers, breeders, welfare societies etc. In giving the service of disposing of sick, old or maimed animals, we have enough meat for our carnivores. This is a way in which we participate helpfully in our community.

We take volunteers to visit a pre-primary School called Bethel Babes, which we help to support, and Charlene who runs it will show you what she is achieving with these underprivileged youngsters.

Although this is a short overview of volunteering at this Park, we trust that the information will encourage you to come to South Africa for your volunteering experience.

We look forward to your enquiry.

"My First Day- I couldn't believe it. I was in with and able to interact with 8 month old lion cubs. Every day became better and better. THE ELEVATED VIEWS! Fantastic! Incredible! Panoramic views of the ocean one direction, the other direction overlooks bush, see the sun rise in the morning and the sun setting in the evening. And then my dream came true - baby tiger cubs of 3 weeks were rescued and had to be nursed by us volunteers!"
